About this treatment

Tadalafil is a prescription medication commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is best known by its brand names, Cialis for ED and BPH, and Adcirca for PAH. It belongs to the class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, similar to sildenafil (Viagra).

How it works

Mechanism of Action

Tadalafil works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme, which increases levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This promotes relaxation of smooth muscle and dilation of blood vessels, improving blood flow.
In ED, it enhances blood flow to the penis, helping achieve and maintain an erection when sexually stimulated.
In BPH, it relaxes the smooth muscle of the bladder and prostate, relieving symptoms of urinary difficulty.
